Carbon Diaries 2017
by Sacci Lloyd
Carbon Diaries 2017 is about a girl called Laura Brown who is trying to stay normal and keep her band The Dirty Angels alive whilst the world is turning into a disaster around her. The government have issued Carbon Rationing cards to everyone in a drastic bid to cut pollution. The world goes from one extreme to the other and protestors persist on getting their way. It's the revolutionaries vs. the government, while everyone else watches exaggerated retellings on their televisions at home. Sacci Lloyd has written an original and breathtaking story about a complex subject that is told in a witty and engaging way. I particularly enjoyed this book because of the diary style and the clippings from Laura's life. This book is thought provoking and makes you really wonder about the future of the world. I would definitely recommend this book to people who want something different to read.
The Princess Diaries
by Meg Cabot
The Princess Diaries is about a 5 foot 9, flat chested, average girl, Mia, whose goals in life are to: survive high school, pass algebra, join Greenpeace and avoid her biggest enemy Lana Weinberger at all costs. That is until she becomes a princess. Then her life is turned upside down. As if it wasn't weird enough having her mum date her algebra teacher!
An incredibly funny, realistic story that takes a fairy tale in a whole new direction. A light-hearted book that still keeps your eyes glued to the page. The story is written in a dairy style so you really get to know Mia and feel the same emotions as her. The first book in a series that I love. I would recommend this book to tweens.
