Festive Fun Day!
Tuesday 20th December
Join us for a day of festive activities with christmas crafts to join in with and two very exciting visits! We will be welcoming:
11am David Logan. The author of the wonderful new novel "Lost Christmas" will be with us to talk about his book and hold a workshop for 9+ year olds on how to create the elements of a story. "Lost Christmas" has been made into a film, which will be showing on BBC1 over Christmas and David will be showing a clip from the film during his visit!
3pm Jane Ray. The widely acclaimed and well-loved author and illustrator Jane Ray will be reading her latest release "The Twelve Days of Christmas" in a lovely event suitable for the whole family. Jane will then be available to sign copies of any of her books.

CONGRATULATIONS to Max, 5, who won our 'Guess the Number of Jellybabies in the Jar' competition. He won with a fantastic guess a mere 10 jellybabies short of the correct amount!
The competition was run courtesy of Faber books to mark the publication of the first book in Karen McCombie's new series, "You, Me and Thing: The Curse of the Jellybabies".

Pre-School Storytime
Our new story and activity mornings begin on Wednesday 5th October at 10:30am and runs for 6 weeks. Just like our summer storytimes we will have a new theme each week (starting with Jungle Animals on the 5th!) and will be reading stories and doing simple activities around that theme.
The cost will be £3 per child. Spaces are strictly limited so please do sign up before attending. We hope to see you there!

Tony DiTerlizzi
This September sees the relaunch of Tony DiTerlizzi's bestselling 'Spiderwick Chronicles' series and the release of his critically acclaimed novel 'The Search for WondLa' in paperback. To celebrate these two publishing events Tony will be in the UK for a short time in September, and we are very pleased to annouce he will be spending some of that time in Lewes!
Join us on Saturday 24th September at 4:30pm to meet Tony and hear him talk about writing and his books and watch some live drawing.
This event will be most suitable for 7 year olds and over.
There is no charge to attend but all children wanting to come along must sign-up as spaces are strictly limited.

Summer Storytime
We have just come to the end of our wonderful Summer Storytime sessions that we have been running over the summer holidays. We've all had a fantastic time reading stories about mermaids and trains and messy hair and lots more! We've been doing cutting and sticking and drawing and playing games, and have joined in with all the fun topics we have been looking at over the summer.
Look out for details of our pre-school storytime which will be beginning in the autumn.

Bookseller Wanted
We have now filled the position previously advertised and are pleased to be welcoming a new member of our team from the beginning of June.
We will probably be looking for another new bookseller in October so check back then if you think you may be right for the job!
We need someone with a real interest in and enthusiasm for children's books, who will be friendly, reliable and flexible to work 2 days a week, including Saturdays.

Tell Me a Story....
Our brand new story and activity morning with Anna von der Lohe on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10am. We will be looking at a fun and exciting topic each month:
Saturday 7th May - Dragons
Saturday 5th June - Secrets
Saturday 2nd July - Let's Draw
The stories and activities will be most suitable for ages 3-7. Please call us or e-mail to book your child's place. £2 per child, max £5 per family group.

"Lost in the Toy Museum"
Author and illustrator David Lucas will be joining us for a storytime to celebrate the publication of his new picture book, "Lost in the Toy Museum".
He will be talking to the children about his books, doing some drawing and reading ""Lost in the Toy Museum".

Blast off with Bob (the Man on the Moon)!
Simon Bartram, the creator of the fantastic books about Bob, the Man on the Moon and his best-ever friend Barry, will be visiting us here in the shop.
Simon will be talking about his books and telling the children all about Bob, and reading from "Man on the Moon".
ON Friday 4th March at 4:30pm
3-7 year olds will most enjoy this event.

The best-selling author of the Cherub and Henderson's Boys series will be at Bags of Books signing his books on Thursday 3rd Feburary at 6pm.
The 4th Henderson's Boys adventure, Grey Wolves, will be realised on this day too!

Nicolas Allen at Bags of Books Christmas Party
On Tuesday 21st December we're having a day of Christmas festivities in the shop, the highlight of which is a visit from the wonderful author and illustator Nicholas Allen.
Nicolas will be reading "Father Christmas Needs a Wee!" at 11am. He will also be doing a bit of illustrating and some magic and getting the children to make pants for Santa.
This event is free but you do need to sign up. Let us know how many children will be coming along by e-mailing us or giving us a call.
There will also be an opportunity to have your book signed by Nicholas, and we will have plenty of "Father Christmas Needs a Wee" available to buy in the shop, as well as Nicholas' other wonderful Christmas book "Jesus' Christmas Party".
After a break for lunch we will be having lots more Christmassy fun from 2pm. Come along and decorate Christmas biscuits and make your own Christmas decorations!

Lewes Late Night Shopping - Thursday 2nd December
Bags of Books is once again participating in Lewes' late night shopping evening on 2nd December. We're hoping for another fantastic year, with plenty of fun for all.
Father Christmas will be visiting us between 5:30-7:30pm, and there will be goody bags and balloons for all the children who come to see him.

Visit from Chris Riddell
We were very pleased to welcome the author and illustrator Chris Riddell to Bags of Books on Monday 25th October. Chris did some wonderful illustrations and talked about and signed copies of his Ottoline series and his brand new "Alienography".

Summer Party 2010 - 26th August
Despite distinctly unsummery weather, we all had great fun at the Summer Party this week. Many thanks to Wishworks who performed a wonderful puppet show in the morning, entertaining children and adults alike. In the afternoon everyone enjoyed making their own puppets, drawing and colouring, having their faces painted and chasing the many stray balloons around the shop!

Audio Book Recommendations
The new issue of ABC magazine (out today!) features our recommendations for audio books for children of all ages. Whether it's to pass the time on a long journey, to listen to before bedtime, or to help with developing reading skills, there's an audio book out there for everyone! Small Knight & George
Rhonda and David Armitage, author and illustrator of "The Lighthouse Keeper" series of books, visited us in the shop on 10th July to read from "Small Knight and George and the Royal Chocolate Cake". Aferwards everyone had a their very own Special Royal Chocolate Cupcake to decorate. Yum!
